Gamma Gamma Lambda participates in Annual March for Babies event
Greenville Chapter has a long tradition of supporting the local event for a worthy cause.

Greenville, South Carolina - More than a dozen Brothers of Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter and their families along with great support from our local undergraduate chapters Pi Alpha and Upsilon Alpha joined the Greenville Community in Supporting the March of Dimes event on April 27, 2013 at Greenville Technical College.

GGL was a part of over 2,500 marchers supporting the very worthy cause sponsored by March of Dimes which raised more than $675,000. This marks the 75th anniversary of the March of Babies event (formerly known as Walk America) which helps to fund programs to keep babies healthy in the Greenville area and the state of South Carolina.

"We have made this worthy cause a priority for our chapter because we see the real good that March of Dimes is making in our community", remarks Chapter president Travis Smith. "We get to have a great fellowship with our brothers and community, -plus we are promoting some great health habits for members and family" , said Team Co-Captain, Bobby Clark.

Brothers setup a Tailgate spot for the day of the event and raised thousands of dollars for the local March of Dimes effort this year. The chapter is very proud to have raise more than $33,000 to the event since 1998 and has placed among the top fund raisers in the state for March of Dimes. Last year, the chapter won as the top fundraising chapter in the state.

ProjectALpha-SCAlpha

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity and March of Dimes have a long standing partnership dating back to the 1980's with Project Alpha, a program co-sponsored by both of the groups. Project Alpha seeks to hold seminars where young men talk frankly from brothers in local Alpha chapters about being sexually responsible and focusing on the consequences of their actions. The program also brings speakers from the community to speak about spiritual, legal, community based themes and solutions to the problem of teenage pregnancy and its related health issues. The goal of the program is to make young men aware their life responsibilities and help them make better life choices.

Gamma Gamma Lambda has sponsored annual Project Alpha events in Upstate and is planning seminar for this summer at the Kroc Center in Greenville, SC. We will be asking the public to help us bring this message to young men in our community. Please look for more information about the seminar in the coming weeks.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African-Americans, was founded at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York on December 4, 1906. The Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter was chartered on August 24, 1941 in Greenville, South Carolina under the umbrella of the National Organization and is the first African-American Greek-Letter Alumni Chapter in the Upstate of South Carolina.

The Chapter is continuing our efforts for March of Dimes and plans some further events to raise funds this summer. Contact Bobby Clark or Alex Holloman, GGL Chapter Co-Captains, at (864) 441-9067 for more information about how you can help the chapter's efforts.
