23rd Annual MLK Youth Program and College Fair to be held on January 19, 2002

The Greenville Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc will conduct 23rd annual MLK Youth Program and College Fair at Southside High School on January 19, 2002 at 9:00 AM. The Youth program, along the annual MLK Scholarship Banquet, is an annual part of the chapter's Martin Luther King celebration.

That morning, the MLK College Fair will be conducted with admission representatives from local colleges and universities available to answer questions during the sessions. This year, the Fair is being expanded to include two panel sessions, "What You Need to Know about Financial Aid" and "What to Expect in Your First Year of College".

"What to Expect in Your First Year of College" will include a panel of current students and parents of students from local colleges and universities who will give their perspective on what it was like during their first year of college. "What You Need to Know about Financial Aid" will have a panel of financial aid representatives from area colleges and universities who will answer some common questions about the financial aid process and South Carolina. Each session will last about 45 minutes, the first session beginning held at 9:30 AM and the second session at 10:30 AM.

The MLK Youth program seeks to honor deserving high school students who have excelled in five areas: Academics, Art, Athletics, Music, and Leadership. School's administrators and teachers nominated students from their local school. Last year, seventy-five students were recognized with certificates from the fourteen Greenville County High Schools and Academies. The Youth Program will begin at noon. Students receiving awards should be ready to assemble at 11:30 AM.
