Orangeburg, SC: Brothers
Clark and Gregg recently attended the March of Dimes Kickoff
held at Claflin University on Saturday, February 11th.
Brother Lewis Hicks and Karen Waldrop, SC March of Dimes Services
Director, lead a morning workshop which focused on premature
babies.
The Kick-Off culminated that afternoon in the
Ernest Finney Auditorium where more than 200 Alphas and Zetas
were present. GGL was again presented with the March of Dimes
trophy for WalkAmerica contributions totaling over $2100. WalkAmerica (www.walkamerica.org)
is held at variety of times across South Carolina. Greenville's
WalkAmerica will be held at Greenville Technical College on April
30 at 9:00 AM.
Both Greek organizations
have National Partnerships with the March of Dimes. Zeta Phi Beta
conducts a program called "Stroke's Nest" which seeks to
informs minority women about proper prenaternal care and Alpha Phi
Alpha conducts Project Alpha, an effort to teach minority males about
being sexually responsible.
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is the nation's first African-American
Greek-letter fraternity established by college students. Established
on December 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University, Alpha
Phi Alpha has more than 750 chapters worldwide with over 125,000
members. Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter is the Greenville chapter
of Alpha Phi Alpha established in 1941.
