Alpha Phi Alpha Greenville Foundation along with Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha will sponsor its 43rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Celebration on Saturday, January 7, 2023 as a virtual event with Alpha Greenville Foundation and Furman University.

Due to the COVID19 crisis, The celebration will not feature a dinner, but include live entertainment and celebrate the Legacy Dr. King in the upstate. Recent years have seen the Scholarship Gala/Celebration positioned as a kickoff event for Martin Luther King activities in Greenville and surrounding areas.

We are honoring our 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. Citizenship Award winner. Our event also features a Jazz Band (Jamie Wright Band), and our MLK Speaker, Mr. Vinson Royal of Springfield Baptist Church.

Proceeds from the Scholarship Celebration support the Luke H. Chatman Scholarship for local high students as well fund other Alpha Greenville Foundation efforts such the MLK Youth Program, Gordon College Fair, and Joseph Vaughn Oratorical Competition. This year, Mr. George W. Singleton, Founder and CEO of Update Family Circle, has been selected as the 2023 Martin Luther King, Jr. Citizenship Award winner, which be presented at the Celebration. In addition to presenting the winner of this year's award, the Gala is the longest held annual Commemorative event MLK Holiday for the Upstate and serves the culminating event for the Foundation's fundraising efforts.
