Publix Charities agrees to sponsor
MLK Youth Program and Upstate College Fair

The Greenville Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. has announced that the Publix Super Markets Charities has agreed to the major sponsor the MLK Youth Program and Upstate College Fair. MLK Youth Program and Upstate College Fair will be held at Southside High School on January 19, 2002 at 9:00 AM. The Youth program, along the annual MLK Scholarship Banquet, is an annual part of the chapter's Martin Luther King celebration.

The Upstate College Fair will be conducted with admission representatives from local colleges and universities available to answer questions during the sessions. The Fair will include two panel sessions. The MLK Youth program seeks to honor deserving high school students who have excelled in five areas: Academics, Art, Athletics, Music, and Leadership.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is the nation's first African-American Greek-letter fraternity established by college students. Established on December 4, 1906 on the campus of Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha has more than 750 chapters worldwide with over 100,000 members. Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter is the Greenville chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha established in 1941.

Publix Super Markets Charities, Inc. was established in 1966 by George W. Jenkins, Founder of Publix. The foundation focuses on youth and education. Charities' philanthropy is channeled toward nonprofit agencies with a special emphasis on United Way and its representative agencies.
